What I Gave Up for My Marriage

Marriage is all about sacrifices. Give and take. But what have I actually "given up" now that I'm a married woman?

My career Goals? No. Nathan is supportive of me getting a Masters' degree (should I choose to pursue one).
Spending time with friends? No. I spent a Saturday with some college friends recently.
Hobbies? No. I'm reading for fun more than I have since elementary school.

What have I given up for my husband? One of these:

A top sheet.

Nathan hates sleeping with a top sheet. He claims they serve no purpose and always end up wadded up at the foot of the bed. I originally thought he would just have to get used to sleeping with one. When we were first married, it was warm enough that we didn't need any blankets. Nathan could tolerate sleeping with a top sheet by itself. But when it came time to pile on the blankets, the sheet had to go.

Yes, marriage is all about compromise and sacrifice...some sacrifices are just a little odder than others.

  1. LOL! I find some of Mark's "things" kind of funny. We both have them, but I'm used to mine. He hates soup. Yes, if it's soup he probably doesn't like it (egg drop soup and a simple broth are fine). I love soup!

He doesn't like spaghetti and meatballs because you have to decide which bites you want to have with the meatballs. Spaghetti with meaty marinara? Bring it on.

  2. That's hilarious! I kind of understand the meatball thing, but soup? Wow. That's a new one. Nathan's anti-vegetableness means he'll only eat chicken noodle, potato, or tomato soup though.

  3. Haha!! Austin doesn't like the top sheet either! We have yet to decide how to compromise. He grew up in a house with no A/C, so he doesn't like having more blankets than necessary on the bed.... I, on the other hand, have a very difficult time falling asleep if I don't have a blanket/sheet of some sort on top of me! So... This should be interesting! :D

  4. Ahhhh, I had the same problem. And he kicked off the comforter too. But, I've redone some of the bedding, got rid of that silky, slippery comforter and MOST of the time, I still get to use my top sheet. :)

  5. No top sheet?! That's kinda genius! I love it! Never would have thought to do that, but I completely agree!

  6. We don't use a top sheet either! We each have our own blanket/comforter because we can't share just 1. We use a thin one in the summer and a thicker one in the winter. Sad.. but, true. LOL He likes to wrap it under his legs when lying on his side and so it gets pulled all to his side.. he also farts a LOT so I really don't mind.. HAHA (I know TMI TMI!)
